Everywhere we go, it's Natalie and Nicole

TRANSCRIPT:
Natalie:  July 31, 1996
Nicole, Hey I just got off the phone w/ you.  I really hope you and Ty work out!  I wish I could go to Cross Timbers with you.  It will be great, you can make a whole new rep (reputation) for yourself.  I really hope that me and (???) work out.  I have to talk to you about some stuff later.  It’s going to be hard at school next year w/out you.  We have to do some stuff together and always call each other!  Everywhere we go it’s Natalie & Nicole, now it’s just Natalie, Nicole.  But we will always be B-F-F.  I know this letter is sappy but I want you to know this.  If we keep on doing our exercises all year, in high school we are going to turn not some but a lot of heads.  Not that we don’t already.  Is that bird still at the pool?  We have to glue our puzzle together and then work on another.      B-F-F, Natalie
Nicole + Natalie = B-F-F

Wow, I got a little verklempt reading this.  At the time, I thought going to a different middle school was the end of the world.  Little did I know that within a year I’d be moving to a different STATE.   But through all the moves and countless “whole new reps”, these awesome words still ring true:  “Everywhere we go, it’s Natalie & Nicole”.  With any luck we’ll be turning heads and working on puzzles for years to come.  Hollaaaaa!!!!!

Knock Knock

TRANSCRIPT:
Nicole:  Lindsey, I feel sorry for you.  She must get really annoying, but don't let her get to you.  Here's a joke:
Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Pizza
Pizza Who?
Pete's a really neat person once you get to know him.
Lindsey:  Nicole, now she's really pissed at me.  Oh darn!  I still want to be friends but not best friends.  I have different friends that I am more close to such as you, Courtney, Lori, Cassie, Danielle & Karen.  Write her a note and tell her that I still wanna be friends, but not best friends.  Love, Lindsey & W/B first.

Well, I think it's pretty clear now why I was voted "Funniest Girl" in 8th grade.  With quality material like that, it's anyone's guess how I didn't make it big in the stand-up circuit.  And my apologies to whoever may have received a note from me stating that Lindsey would no longer like to be best friends with you.  Guess it's not just today's kids who are the assholes.

The Tomb of the Unknown Boyfriend

TRANSCRIPT:
Unknown Boy Friend:  Dear Nicole, What's up?  Nothing much.  So how was your weekend?  Mine was fine.  So how was babysitting?  Was it fun?  How was the lock-in?  What did you guys do?  Well gotta go.  Check ya later.  UT rules!  Aggies stink!  Smile.  PS - W/B/S
Most smiles start with your beautiful smile!
*Pitty the Aggies who thought Gatorade was welfare for the crocodiles*
Daffy says hello!  He misses you!

I have no idea who wrote this note but he sure sounded like a dumb-ass.  Which means he was probably a boyfriend.  I can only guess that the reason I dated him was because he constantly told me I was beautiful (there are other notes to this effect).  Compliments are like crack to pre-teen girls.  I do, however, remember the lock-in he was talking about.  But he should have known better than to ask what we did.  What happens at the lock-in stays at the lock-in, fool!

Copy Cat

TRANSCRIPT:
Marleta:  Nicole Kenning, Wuz up?  Nutin much here, just chillin.  Isn't it cool we have most classes together?  Anyways -  I'm going to Nicole's party so we can do something next weekend.  How fine is the guy that skateboards?  I was going to put bed for my answer but then it sounded like the wizard so I spelled it wrong.  Tara copied off of you.  Love, Marleta

VERY fine.  The guy that skateboarded outside my bedroom window was VERY very fine.  It was my first experience with a creeper crush - the kind where you secretly watch him from behind your sketchy apartment blinds.  Good times.  And mad props to Marleta for writing what I think we can all agree is the most incoherent sentence ever uttered by a 12 year old:  "I was going to put bed for my answer but then it sounded like a wizard so I spelled it wrong".  What the hell?! Lastly, of course Tara copied off of me.  Lots of people did.  I'm pretty sure I'm responsible for at least a handful of people making it past the 7th grade.  You're welcome.

Did you hear about Rob?

TRANSCRIPT:
Mary:  Nicole - Hey babe, wusup?  N.M.H.  How are you?  I’m pretty good.  Have you talked to Mike yet?  He’s not worth it.  I like Carey a lot!  I have absolutely no feelings 4 Brad anymore.  Just looking at him or talking about him makes me sick.  He spread all these stupid rumors around his school about me and Carey that were totally not true.  N-E-ways, did you hear about Rob?  He broke some guy’s nose, jaw and knocked out a tooth.  He’s suspended for the rest of the week and has ISS all of next week.  The poor guy he beat up is in the hospital and his parents want to sue.  I can’t wait until Valentines!  I think I’m probably gonna give Carey JNCO’s.  Do you honestly think I should?  If I don’t do that I’ll get him cologne or a shirt.  So what are you doing this weekend?  I’m so glad we have four days.  I’ll probably sleep all of Monday and Tuesday.  Are you going to the dance on Friday?  I doubt I will.  I’m probably going to the movies.  Well gotta go.  I love you!  Love forever, Mary.
I love Carey 4-Ever!
PS – Call me!

Is it weird that after receiving this note my crush on Rob went from a level 2 to a level 9?  He may have been a year younger than me but he was allllll man!  Can't say the same about that jerk, Mike.  And yes Mary, I HONESTLY think you should give Carey JNCO’s for his birthday.  They were our generation’s bell bottoms, and any guy that didn’t rock the JNCO/polo shirt/Nike combo was a Loser with a capital L.  I’m bummed I didn’t think to put a pair of my own JNCO’s in the middle school time capsule.  If they decide to make a fashion comeback, my teenage daughter would have been super hip and vintage in her mom’s old pair.  Drats.

My Lips Are Sealed

TRANSCRIPT:
Lance:  Nicole, Hey!  You and Mike need to talk.  I hate this class.  I really only like two people.  I feel that I can trust you man, If you promise you won’t tell.  I like Dani and the other girl is in our science class.  Her birthday was yesterday.  W*G*G (Well Gotta Go)    Love ya, Lance
PS – Write Back
Nicole:  I never expected Jessica.  Don’t worry, my lips are sealed.  You can trust me!  Who do you like more (circle one):  Dani or Jessie

Can we all agree on a statute of limitations to keeping a secret?  Let's say... oh I don't know, 15 years?  Which absolves me of any wrongdoing in posting this stuff.  Whew, my conscience feels WAY clearer now.

In a totally unrelated note, how weird is it that my handwriting changes like a million times in these notes?  Is that supposed to be some kind of metaphor for my life back then?  Yowza.
